Lithuania’s unemployment rate edged up to 13.1% in the first quarter from 13% in the fourth quarter, the Department of Statistics in Vilnius said on Friday. The latest figure was notably lower than 7.3% recorded in the first quarter last year. Long-term unemployment, which refers to persons unemployed for one year or more, was 5.9% during the quarter, a tad lower than the previous quarter’s figure of 6%. The unemployment rate among youth, aged between 15 and 24, was 22.7%, down from 25.4% seen in the final three months of last year. The number of jobless persons in the country increased modestly by 0.6% sequentially to around 191,200 during the three months ended March.
