Foreign guest nights rose 3.9% from a year earlier to 580,000 in March, and domestic guest nights rose 7.0% yr/yr to 593,000.
In the first three months guest nights increased 5.9% yr/yr to 2.931m, with foreign guest nights up 6.7% and domestic guests nights rising 5.1%.
The total number of guests was 485,000 in March, up 5.8% yr/yr, with foreign guests totaling 222,000, up 4.8% from a year earlier. Domestic guests numbered 263,000 in March, up 6.7% yr/yr.
In the first three months of 2011, the total number of guests was 1,214,000, up 5.9% from a year earlier, with foreign arrivals increasing 7.6% and domestic guests up 4.5%.
In the entire last year, guest nights were up 1.5% compared to the previous year, totaling 19.03m. Foreign guest nights rose 1.4% to 9.36m last year, while domestic guest nights were up 1.6% at 9.67m.
The average hotel occupancy rate was 36.2% in January-March 2011 and 41.6% in March alone.
Five-star hotels had an average occupancy rate of 51.1% in Q1 2011 and 60.8% in March alone, while four-star hotels had an average occupancy rate of 41.3% in the first three months of 2011, and 46.8% in March alone. The average occupancy rate at spa hotels was 48% in the first quarter of 2011.
Gross revenue from accommodation rose 6.6% yr/yr to HUF 43.07 billion in the first quarter of 2011, up 6.6% from a year earlier. The Q1 2011 figure included HUF 21.68 billion in accommodation charges.
Annual accommodation revenue from foreign visitors rose 11.7% to HUF 12.972 billion and revenue from domestic guests was up 3.2% at HUF 8.707 billion in Q1, resulting in 8.2% more combined revenue. The 1% weakening of the forint against the euro in the first quarter had an impact on revenue from foreign visitors during the period.
The gross average rate charged for a hotel room was HUF 13,402 in January-March, while the gross REVPAR (revenue available per room) was HUF 4,858.
