The number of defaulters registered in BISz Zrt’s Central Credit Information System (KHR) exceeded 800,000 in June, economic daily Napi Gazdaság reported.

This is a 18% increase year-on-year in the number of people who have failed to meet their loan obligations to any financial institution for more than 90 days and whose debt exceeds the minimum wage. As a comparison, the number of debtors registered prior to the crisis was 290,000.

Removal from the list can be done with full debt settlement. The restructuring and rescheduling of the debt can also help avoid default.

The number of failed contracts rose 24%. The number of closed cases since the amendments in March – which say that debtors repaying their debts cannot be held on the list for more than a year – is stagnating.

Due to the shortened period, some banks are planning to raise interest rates, the paper wrote.
