The Czech employment increased in the first quarter, largely driven by the tertiary sector of services, the Czech Statistical Office in Prague said Monday. The number of employed increased by 49,100 or 1% from the previous year to 4.88 million. The number of the self-employed in main job, including family workers, declined 29,000 and their share decreased to 17.8%. In the secondary sector, employment dropped by 17,200 and the tertiary sector, conversely, saw an increase of 56,300 persons. The number of persons working in the primary sector increased by 9,900. At the same time, the number of the unemployed according to the ILO methodology rose by 23,600 from the previous year. The general unemployment rate of the aged 15-64 years increased by 0.4 percentage point to 7.5%.
