Several tens of billions of forints can be saved in the health insurance system’s drug budget with the new drug subsidy scheme described in the Széll Kálmán Plan, business daily Világgazdaság reports quoting Péter Cserháti, Deputy State Secretary responsible for health matters.
According to the paper, part of the savings will come from a so-called “bonus-malus” system that will be introduced as part of the new scheme. Under this regime, patients will only receive the subsidy for a given drug if they duly follow the instructions of the doctor.
The state health fund will sign subsidy contracts with pharmaceutical companies for two years, and after that, it will only keep those drugs subsidized, which prove to be efficient during the grace period.
