The report, prepared using data from the National Tourism Data Service Centre (NTAK), shows foreign visitors accounted for 43% of hotel guests nights during the period. The HHRA acknowledged an "extra boost" to business because of the FINA worlds which Hungary hosted from late June until early in July.
Overall guest nights were still 19% under the number in June 2019, the year before the pandemic.
Occupancy rates at hotels averaged 53% in June, 21 percentage points higher than in the same month a year earlier, but 13 percentage points under the rate in June 2019.
The gross average room rate was HUF 28,880 in June, climbing 21% from the same month in 2019. During that period, prices rose just 7% in Budapest but jumped 62% in the area around Lake Balaton.
Guest nights at hotels around Lake Balaton came to 444,000 in June. Occupancy rates at hotels in the region averaged 54%. Visitors paid a little over HUF 27,300 per room there.
The gross revenue of hotels reached HUF 37.5 bln in June. Hotels in the capital accounted for HUF 13.3 bln of the total and hotels around Lake Balaton for HUF 8.9 bln.
