As well as connecting its electricity market across borders, Hungary must expand its output, state secretary in charge of energy at the Ministry of Transportation, Telecommunication and Energy Péter Gordos said at a professional forum on Tuesday.
András Vinkovits, who heads Hungary’s transmission system operator Mavir, said Hungary’s energy demand increased an annual 0.8%-1.3% in the 90s, but has risen 1.7%-2.4% a year since 2000, and he predicted the same pace for future growth. Hungary will need to add another 3,000MW of capacity to its current capacity of 9,000MW by 2015 if it is to meet growing demand, he said. (MTI – Econews)
