Hungarian, Greek business reps meet in Budapest

Representatives of Hungarian and Greek businesses held a forum at the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BKIK).

Hungarian state secretary in charge of foreign trade Zsolt Becsey and Greek state secretary in charge of foreign affairs Spyros Kouvelis addressed the forum.

Economic ties between Greece and Hungary are mainly evident in the tourism and food industries, but partnerships could be formed in the telecommunications industry and the areas of renewable energy and innovation, Kouvelis said.

Becsey said he saw potential partnerships in the tourism and spa industries. Greek investors have experience in the areas of solar and wind power, while Hungarian companies could bring municipal sewage treatment technology to Greece, he added.

About 50 Hungarians and Greeks participated at the forum.

Hungarian exports to Greece came to €286 million in January-November of 2010, down about 4pc from the same period a year earlier. Imports from Greece climbed 29% to €68 million during the same period, data from Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) show.
