Government officials have met to discuss the situation of troubled meat company Gyulai Húskombinát with a view to supporting the sausage maker’s more than century of tradition, the Rural Development Ministry said on Friday.

Rural Development Minister Sándor Fazekas, parliamentary group leader of governing Fidesz János Lázár and the city of Gyula’s MP József Kovács met at the Rural Development Ministry to discuss the company’s consolidation, the ministry said.

“The dialogue initiated in the interest of the future of Gyulai Húskombinát is part of a strategy that makes state support available to traditional companies that supply high-quality products,” the ministry said.

Gyulai Húskombinát, established in 1868, is one of Hungary’s most famous sausage makers. It turns out 12,000 tonnes of meat products a year.
