Still no final go-ahead for Chinese airport investment in Hungary

Chinese-owned SIA-Port has still not received final approval for a planned €455 million airport between Vát and Pórpác, managing director Balázs Barta said.

“We have done everything for the success of the investment, and SIA-Port…can do no more to make the airport project a reality at the moment,” Barta said.

MTI learnt the company’s Chinese owners have not yet informed SIA-Port of a decision on the investment.

Answering a question by MTI, the National Development Ministry said it aimed to clear bureaucratic hurdles for developments at regional airports in Hungary and would complete a strategy for the whole sector by the summer.

SIA-Port aims to build an international airport with a focus on air cargo at the site, Econews reported earlier. The planned investment was made a “priority project”, accelerating the process of applying for permits, early in 2010.
