The top diplomats of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia invited their Moldovan counterpart Andrei Stratan to the meeting. They discussed possible forms of cooperation of the Visegrád states with Moldova and the development of that country’s relations with the EU. Negotiations between the EU and Moldova are only in the stage of preparations, Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg said, adding that he hoped Moldova’s EU entry would once be topical.
The Visegrád Group was formed in 1991 in Visegrád, Hungary, by Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary, with the aim of furthering cooperation among member countries. Czechoslovakia was divided in December 1992 into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, both now members of the Visegrád Group. (people.com.cn)
