Opposition MPs said they would not support the proposal because it was not accompanied by a strategy for reducing the general government deficit. SZDSZ MP Gábor Szalay agreed, saying his party would not debate the bill because it lacked substance. Magyar Hírlap noted that if SZDSZ stands by its position on the proposal, it could very well be scratched from the agenda.
