Most of the new equipment, medium-range Slammer, short-range Sidewinder and air-to-surface Maverick missiles, will be supplied during the next two or three years by American defense firm Raython Co. Missile Systems.
The purchases will have a negative impact on Hungary’s already burdened public finances, the paper said, although no direct information on the exact number of missiles or their price was available. The paper cited a US document published in 2002, which had said that Hungary was planning to spend $55 million on 160 Sidewinders alone.
