Remarks by Janos Lazar, parliamentary group leader of governing Fidesz, suggesting that there was a lack of cooperation between the government and the National Bank of Hungary are inaccurate, the central bank said when asked by MTI on Thursday.
Mr Lazar said earlier in an interview with MTI that the MNB should use monetary policy to support the government’s economic growth goals.
The MNB said Mr Lazar knows precisely the method and the scale of the cooperation between the central bank and the government, thus his statement about the lack of cooperation between the two are not an accurate reflection of the reality of the situation.
The MNB said it contributes to economic growth mainly through sustaining the predictability of the economic environment, ensuring price stability and the stability of the financial system by means of monetary policy.
“The honourable fraction leader’s words attacking the central bank’s independence are unacceptable and hurt the country’s interests, especially in the current crisis situation,” the MNB added.
