Food prices jumped by 11.88%, while non-food prices added 6.98%. Prices of services grew by 11.72%. On a monthly comparison basis, the consumer price index (CPI) inched up by 0.54% in August, as prices of services rose by 0.44%, non-food prices added 0.43%, while food prices edged down by 1.99%.
The EU measure of harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) rose at a faster rate of 9.3% yearly in August versus 8.9% in July. The HICP moved up 0.8% from a month ago.
Separate data from the Bucharest-based statistics agency also showed that industrial production in the country dropped a seasonally and working-day-adjusted 6.2% annually in July.
Among sectors, manufacturing production alone declined 5.5%, and electricity output plunged 12%. Meanwhile, mining and quarrying production grew by 4.1%. Compared to the previous month, industrial production rose 0.6%.
