The first phase of the reorganization is scheduled to be wound up in the summer and the second by the summer of 2017, by which time all other organizations making state payments will be abolished, Hungarian news agency MTI cited Lázár as saying.
The reorganized treasury would be responsible for payments such as pensions and health insurance benefits, Lázár said, while ministries would be in charge of making policy decisions.
Lázár said Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is resolute in dividing governmental task into two separate tiers, one for strategic decision making and regulating and one for executive functions, MTI reported.
Lázár added that changes in the treasury’s personnel could take place, as well as an upgrade of its IT infrastructure.
