The bill was submitted by Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén on Monday.
The parliamentary debate was opened by the opening speech of András Tállai, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, followed by a unanimous call from opposition MPs for the government to withdraw the bill to amend KATA.
The changes to KATA rules will come into effect from September. This means that taxpayers using KATA will only be able to issue invoices to private individuals, impacting hundreds of thousands of taxpayers who used this form of taxation, originally introduced a decade ago.
Protesters protesting against the amendment of KATA gathered at Kossuth tér and later marched to Margaret Bridge on Tuesday morning, where they blocked traffic according to a report by news agency MTI.
Opposition politicians, including representatives of MSZP, Momentum, LMP, Jobbik, DK and Párbeszéd, were also present on the square. Many of them marched with the protesters to the Margaret Bridge.
Shortly after 11 a.m., a group of demonstrators blocked traffic on the Pest side of the bridge, bringing cars and trams to a standstill. Another group of demonstrators occupied the middle of the bridge, at the Margaret Island exit.
