A bill to roll back mandatory margin caps on a range of food and nonfood products is being debated in Parliament.

Speaking at a European Commerce Day event organized by business association VOSZ, Kapitány said ending the cap on motor fuel prices had been among the Tisza government’s first steps affecting commerce.

The government wants a competitive, consumer-friendly retail sector with stable prices and a wide selection of quality products, he said. It is also working to help Hungarian suppliers enter new markets.

VOSZ Chairman Attila Gazsi said Hungary lost 15,000 shops between 2022 and 2025. Meanwhile, much of Hungarians’ online spending was going to foreign webshops, he added.
