Speaking at a regular government press briefing, Magyar said the payment will cover not only children eligible for regular child protection benefits but also those with chronic illnesses, severe disabilities or special educational needs.

Participants in a preparatory program for young Hungarians without primary school education, those in vocational training, single-parent families, children in child protection institutions, foster care and those receiving orphan support, will also be eligible, he added.

The first half of the grant will be transferred by Aug 24, with the second instalment coming in November via voucher.

A separate law will later specify how the voucher can be used, he said. Magyar also promised a more comprehensive and targeted system for 2027.
