Of this package, EUR 1.5 bln is allocated to modernizing the national electricity system.

The tenders will be open to distribution companies and the transmission system operator, with all supported projects required to be completed by the end of 2030 and enabling more than 4,800 megawatts of clean‑energy capacity to connect to the grid.

Annual renewable‑capacity expansion could reach 1,000 megawatts, while a parallel tender will finance smart meters to improve electricity efficiency for households and businesses.

The government also announced HUF 540 bln in non‑refundable energy‑development grants yesterday, with applicat ions accepted only from June 19 to July 20, underscoring the tight timeline for accessing EU funds.

The ministry warns that the Recovery and Resilience Facility’s August 31 spending deadline leaves very limited time for parliamentary approval and implementation, which are essential for Hungary to draw down the available resources in time.
