The decline marks a continuation of weakness in the country’s manufacturing sector, with every major manufacturing subsection posting a contraction.

Working-day adjusted data showed a slightly narrower 8% year-on-year decrease, while seasonally and working-day adjusted output was down 1.3% compared to January 2025, signaling a month-on-month slowdown in activity.

The largest declines came from two of the most important industrial segments: the manufacture of transport equipment and electrical equipment. Both sectors experienced significant drops in production volume compared to the same month of the previous year, underscoring ongoing challenges in Hungary’s key export industries.

Other manufacturing areas, including computer, electronic and optical products, as well as food, beverages and tobacco, also recorded declines, though to a lesser extent.

The February data brings the cumulative industrial output for the first two months of 2025 to 6.4% below the level seen during the same period last year.
