The Sziget Festival, the week-long music and arts festival on an island in the River Danube in Budapest and one of the biggest music festivals in Europe, has announced the first 14 names on its 25th anniversary line-up in 2017. Also known as the Island of Freedom, Sziget will run from August 9-16 next year.

“The Sziget Festival takes place on a beautiful green island in the middle of Budapest, where more than 500,000 ‘Szitizens’ unite from more than 100 countries to celebrate,” the organizers said in a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal today. “It has received the award for ‘Best Major European Festival’ twice, while last year it was awarded the ‘Best Line-Up.’ The program breaks down on more than 50 venues, where you can not only plan to see top headline acts on the Main Stage, but can experience a unique vibe, where the program is on 24/7.”

The first acts, in alphabetical order, are: Bad Religion, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, DJ Shadow, GTA, GusGus, Kensington, Mac DeMarco, Major Lazer, Oh Wonder, Oliver Heldens, Tom Odell, Two Door Cinema Club, Vince Staples, and W&W.

The organizers say hundreds of acts and programs will be announced in the forthcoming months, representing multiple genres and keeping the music line-up colorful. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike will host the End Show of the 25th Sziget, the last act on the Main Stage, on the last festival day.

In the first 25 hours of ticket sales, more than 25% of passes for 2017 were sold, the organizers say. Discount passes can be bought until December 31. Tickets and further and information can be found at szigetfestival.com.
