Research: Xenophobia at a record high in Hungary
According to a study by research firm Tárki that was released yesterday, 46% of the Hungarian adult population is xenophobic, the highest rate recorded since 1992 when Tárki first began the survey.
Only 9% of those surveyed in April said that all immigrants are welcome, while 45% would consider letting immigrants in the country. According to the data, immigrants of Arabic origin are less welcome, while Hungarians living abroad are the most tolerated.
Chinese, Romanians, Roma and Africans all have a rejection rate above 80%, while 60% of the respondents said they would ban the immigration of “Piréz” people as well, an ethnic group that does not actually exist.
