Orbán: Migrants resemble an army, not asylum seekers

The world knows very little about the “real nature of migration”, as about 80% of migrants are young men, who “look more like an army than asylum seekers”, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in his regular fortnightly interview with state-owned Kossuth Radio.

Orbán repeated that, in the Hungarian government’s point of view, issues of population cannot be solved with immigration. If other European countries are willing to “solve demographic issues with men resembling young fighters,” they can do so, however Hungary “cannot accept that this approach would be forced on the country”. He added that a part of the Hungarian leftist opposition thinks of immigrants as “a possibility”, because they can help solve our labor needs, but he considers that attitude a “fatal mistake”.
The prime minister said that Geneva Convention clarifies that those people who are in trouble have the right to ask for help. However, he said, there is no “á la carte refugee”, which means that they cannot say that a safe country is unsuitable for them and they want to go to another country. Some European leaders seem to be happy that their countries “are being flocked to by tens thousands of foreigners arriving uncontrollably,” Orbán said.
“Until Europe makes it clear that it cannot let everybody in, and that before someone enters the continent they need to face a procedure outside Europe, they will be coming,” he added.
Migration a world-wide issue
Commenting on the UN Summit in New York discussing migration, the prime minister said that one of the problems is that “Europe is divided” and there is “no unified answer for immigration” the continent faces. He said that only Hungary and Malta were the ones to completely support the introduction of a world quota system, or in other words, distributing refugees around the world.
He said that Europe “alone cannot bear all the problems of the world”, as doing such would “crush the way of life of the continent”. It is not an option that the United States receives “no or few immigrants”, rich Arabian countries “seem to hesitate” about receiving them, and Israel and Australia “do not receive immigrants at all”. Therefore, “everyone is turning towards Europe, because somebody has directed economic migrants this way”.
Croatian PM’s said to attack Hungary
According to the Hungarian prime minister, Croatia’s Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic needs to be considered as the “trustee of the Social Internationale, whose errand is to attack Hungary”. Orbán said that he does not “not consider as the voice of Croatian people” the words of Milanovic. He emphasized that Milanovic and his party are the part of the Social Internationale, who support immigration, and deem it as good.
