The Hungarian Parliament today approved a declaration criticizing EU leaders and “the irresponsible politics of Brussels” for mishandling the current refugee crisis, Hungarian online daily index.hu reported.
The declaration, entitled “Message to the leaders of the European Union”, states that “the irresponsible politics of Brussels has led to the death of people,” presumably in reference to deaths of refugees, including the discovery of the dead bodies of 71 refugees transiting from Hungary.
The declaration was proposed by MPs of the ruling Fidesz and junior coalition Christian Democratic parties. The declaration was approved with 112 voting in favor and 34 voting against, while Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and a number of other ministers did not vote.
According to index.hu, the declaration includes statements such as:
• “It is the political shame of Europe that such a situation can occur.”
• “It needs to be said: each politician encouraging refugees to leave their country for a better life is irresponsible.”
• “We cannot allow illegal immigrants to pose a threat to the jobs and social security of Hungarians.”
The Hungarian Parliament called on the leaders of the European Union “to hear the voice of the people … and protect Europe and European citizens”, index.hu reported.
