Szijjártó: ʼGoodʼ T-TIP could create 20,000-30,000 jobs

Int’l Relations

According to Hungary’s foreign minister Péter Szijjártó, a “good” free trade agreement between the European Union and the United States could boost Hungarian exports to America by 15-20% and create 20,000-30,000 jobs, the minister said at a meeting today organized by business association MGYOSZ.

Referring to the negotiations on the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP), Szijjártó said that Hungary wants “a good free trade agreement with the United States that takes into account the interests of Europe and Hungary."

Earlier this week, House Speaker László Kövér said at a meeting with his counterparts in Rome that Hungary will continue to defend its national interests through negotiations on T-TIP.

Hungarian farm minister Sándor Fazekas and United States ambassador to Hungary Colleen Bell discussed the proposed T-TIP free trade agreement between the U.S. and the European Union at a meeting on April 20.

Hungary’s foreign minister Péter Szijjártó said earlier that the Hungarian government will only support the agreement if it serves Hungarian interests.
