Paks nuclear plant block shut down following malfunction

A control system malfunction prompted the automatic shutdown of block one of the Paks nuclear power plant in Hungary, the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (OAH) said, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.
The shutdown met nuclear safety requirements, and it did not necessitate the use of automatic defense systems or ultimately compromise the safety of the block, MTI quoted the OAH as saying.
Work to fix the malfunction has begun, and the block will be re-started once the problem is fixed, the report continued.
The reactor is expected to be back in use tomorrow, Antal Kovács, communications director of Paks, told MTI, adding that the power plant’s other three blocks remained unaffected.
Last week, OAH announced that the output of the block had been scaled back by more than 100MW due to a generator malfunction, according to MTI.
