KSH: Jobless rate unchanged at 8.0%

The average unemployment rate among Hungarians between the ages of 15 and 74 was 8.0% in April-June, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported yesterday. 

The jobless rate was unchanged from March-May and down from 10.3% in the same period a year earlier. The number of unemployed averaged 358,900 in April-June.

The figure was up from 356,900 in March-May but down from 449,500 in the same period a year earlier. A total of 51.0% of the unemployed had been seeking work for one year or more. The average time spent looking for work was 19 months.

KSH noted that the National Labour Office registered 439,000 job-seekers in Hungary at the end of June 2014, down 11.8% from a year ago. The number of employed averaged 4,121,500 in April-June.

The figure rose from 4,105,100 in March-May and was up from 3,910,100 in the same period a year earlier. The activity rate rose to 58.9% in April-June from 58.6% in March-May and was up from 57.4% in the same period a year earlier.

The employment rate in the 15-74 age group averaged 54.2% in April-June, up from 54.0% in March-May and up from 51.5% in the same three month period one year earlier.
