Land

About HUF 70 billion is being allocated for irrigation investments in Hungary's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plan for 2023-2027, Minister of Agriculture István Nagy said in a video message posted on Facebook.

Nagy said that farmers have been awarded HUF 45 bln in subsidies for irrigation developments in recent years.

He noted that legislation supporting the establishment of irrigation communities came into force at the start of 2020 and said 118 such communities have been set up, so far.

Those communities are irrigating 56,067 hectares of farmland, he added.

The Ministry of Agriculture is reviewing applications submitted by a further 19 irrigation communities and 49 groups of farmers have signaled their intent to establish irrigation communities, he said.

Irrigation has become a necessity for farming because of climate change, Nagy noted.
