An activist group referred to as “I won’t give up my home” gathered supporters on Facebook prior to taking over the Florián tér branch of OTP Bank this morning to demand compensation for financial damages suffered through the FX loans conversion, Hungarian online daily origo.hu reported.

The bank remained open for business while the protest took place, and when the branch’s security personnel were unable to remove protesters, the police arrived at the scene, origo.hu reported. According to origo.hu, no one was apprehended, but police asked the activists to leave, as they were in violation of laws pertaining to public rallies. The protesters eventually left the branch.

The leader of the activist group, László Póka, said the demonstration was a success, as the group felt they had generated enough attention for their cause, origo.hu reported.

Póka added that he will face charges for the endeavour in addition to an earlier fine of HUF 75,000 for similar offences, however, he said he has no intention of paying the fine, but has opted instead to do jail time, the daily reported.
