Gov't Abolishes Taxes on Agricultural Land

Municipalities will not be able to levy taxes on agricultural land in the future, and the land tax collected for this year must be returned by October 1, according to a video Zsolt Nyitrai, the prime minister's chief adviser, posted on his Facebook page yesterday morning.
He said that the amendment to the law to abolish the land tax was developed and submitted by the Ministry of Agriculture together with farmers' organizations.
The National Chamber of Agriculture and the Association of Hungarian Farmers' Associations and Farmers' Cooperatives had initiated a petition to ban the land tax.
Nyitrai called the action a success, as more than 120,000 people signed the petition.
