During the pandemic, about four in ten Romanians manage to make savings (39%), compared to 68% during a regular month before the pandemic, according to a study 'Digitization of the banking system in the Romanians' perception', conducted by IRES in December and commissioned by the Romanian Banks Association, Romania Journal reports.

Men and people living in the city manage to save more during the pandemic, the survey shows.

If they had a higher amount of money and wanted to make savings, 28% of the Romanians would invest it in their own education or in one of their family members, 23% of the respondents would deposit money at the bank, 16% would have entrepreneurial initiatives and 10% would buy foreign currency, while the rest will be used for various purposes.

Only 9% would keep the money "under the mattress". The survey was made on a sample of 1,479 respondents.
