Tibor Berkes has been named director of business development and sales for the CEE region at Mastercard, according to online news portal napi.hu. He will be responsible for business development on core products and solutions, while identifying product innovation opportunities in credit, prepaid and value-added services.
Having joined the Budapest office in June, Berkes assumes responsibility for basic bank card and corporate card products, prepaid card programs, and value-added banking services in Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia.
Berkes joins Mastercard from the mobile telecommunications sector, having worked for more than a decade at the Telenor group, where his primary task was to develop and successfully market new and innovative mobile financial solutions.
The 42-year-old specialist gained his economics degree in 2001 at the International Business School, and then obtained an MBA on a scholarship to Oxford Brookes University in the U.K.
At Mastercard, Berkes assumes the responsibilities of Szabolcs Szendrei, who was appointed by Mastercard Europe in the spring to head its European Credit Cards Team.
