The Embassy of the Republic of South Africa and the Municipality of the City of Budapest will organize a Family Fun Walk this Saturday, September 8, honoring one-time South African President Nelson Mandela.
The walk is held in commemoration of the Nelson Mandela Centenary, which is being celebrated all over the world throughout 2018 to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the anti-apartheid revolutionary, who passed away aged 95 in 2013.
The aim of the event is to create awareness of Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy by involving ordinary people from all walks of life in a fun event. It will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday on Margaret Island (Margitsziget).
Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, and went on to become South Africaʼs president in 1994, after spending his life fighting against apartheid, including imprisonment for 27 years by the oppressive regime.
