National day fireworks to exceed HUF 200 mln

History

St. Stephenʼs Day on August 20, the celebration to mark the foundation of Hungary by its first Christian king, is celebrated each year with a spectacular fireworks display in the evening over the Danube in Budapest. This yearʼs edition will cost HUF 222 million, news portal 24.hu has learned.

This yearʼs fireworks show will be handled by the same company as last year, Nuvu Kft., but at a somewhat cheaper cost: in 2017, the display cost HUF 224 mln. The main organizer of the festivities is government spokesman Zoltán Kovács, and the preparations started on July 30.

Kovács said that more than 21,000 pyrotechnic effects will be seen during the 25-minute show, which will begin at 9 p.m. The best location to view the fireworks is the area between Lánchíd (Chain Bridge) and Margaret Bridge.

The festivities will last for three days, starting on Saturday, August 18. The official program is viewable on the government website in Hungarian, with an English summary available here.
