The 11th edition of the Hungarian National Gallop (Nemzeti Vágta), one of Hungaryʼs most prestigious equestrian sporting events, will take place this weekend on Heroesʼ Square in Budapest.
The racing itself will feature both Hungarian and international entrants, making it a truly world-renowned event presenting Hungarian culture, gastronomy, and traditions to visitors, with the end of Andrássy út turned into a conventional fair for the weekend.
In 2018, the event will give a special focus to the next generation of riders, with riding instructors, clubs, and schools around the country represented alongside their youngest pupils. Furthermore, the event will also feature a march by 110 junior hussars.
The event will run over the long weekend of September 14-16. Friday sees the opening of the National Kitchen (Országkonyha), offering traditional food, homemade pálinka and wines. The races run Saturday and Sunday, with riders competing for the Golden Spur (Arany Sarkantyú).
