Qatar Airways celebrated 10 years of linking the Hungarian capital with the capital city of Qatar, Doha and the Qatar Airways global network on January 17, the company tells the Budapest Business Journal.

On 17 January 2011, the inaugural flight – an Airbus A320 carrying VIP guests – touched down in Budapest and was greeted with a traditional water-cannon salute (pictured above). As the airline’s 23rd destination in Europe and 97th destination overall at the time the launch of direct flights four times per week between Doha and Budapest opened up gateways to new markets for Hungarian travelers via Doha.

Today, Qatar Airways operates three flights per week to Doha using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The airline was also recognized in Hungary many times, including the “Best Airline in Hungary” Award from the Association of Hungarian Travel Agencies.

Qatar Airways country manager for Hungary, Martin Zdarek said: "Budapest remains a key market for us and we thank our customers who’ve chosen us and to the partners who have supported us in all these years. We are glad to continue to be a part of your journey and to create wonderful memories together."

Currently, the airline operates flights between Budapest and Doha every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
