Gov't offers taxi drivers EV subsidies
Hungary's government will soon call a tender for taxi drivers to subsidize the purchase of electric vehicles, state secretary Tamás Schanda said on Friday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
The government is earmarking HUF 3 bln to cover 45% of the cost of EVs with a value up to HUF 15 million.
Zoltán Metál, who heads the National Tax Association, acknowledged targeted support taxi drivers had received from the government during the pandemic in the form of tax exemptions and a grace period for meeting vehicle age requirements.
Schanda noted that the government had decided to call the tender at the request of taxi associations and the Budapest chapter of governing alliance Fidesz-KDNP.
