MAV-START lets passengers print tickets at home

Tourism

MAV-START, the passenger unit of state-owned Hungarian railway company MAV, has started allowing passengers to print tickets purchased online at home, CEO Zsolt Kovari said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Between 7% and 8% of the 20,000 domestic tickets purchased in the first week since MAV-START made the allowance were printed by passengers at home, Mr Kovari said.

Letting passengers print the tickets at home required a HUF 52m investment, which included spending on IT developments and 1,450 smartphones necessary to read the tickets, he added.

MAV wants to increase the number tickets it sells online from about 3% to 15% of the total, he said.
