The volume includes cargo placed in the holds of passenger aircraft as well as that handled by international delivery companies UPS, FedEx, DHL and TNT.
In addition to deliveries of chemicals, automotive and IT industry goods, all staples of Hungaryʼs exports, cargo handled at the airport has included calves ordered from Israel and race horses delivered to China and Russia.
Budapest Airport said it would complete a 20,000 sqm warehouse for non-integrated carriers this year. The HUF 15 billion investment includes an extra frontal service area big enough to accommodate two Boeing 747 aircraft.
