Hungary’s January-September transport volume up 6.4%

Hungary's transport companies carried 240.7 million tons of goods in the first nine months of 2006, 6.4% more than in the same period a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Thursday.

Performance in terms of freight-ton-kilometers rose 14.1% to 34.6 billion during the period. Freight carried abroad accounted for 59.6 million tons or 24.8% of total volume in Jan-Sept 2006, up 9.8% year-on-year. Of freight carried abroad, 30.03 million tons was carried by rail, 11.6 million tons by pipeline, 12.37 million tons by road and 5.7 million by waterway.
