The local council of Berekfürdő, northeastern Hungary, inaugurated a HUF 582 mln renovation of the cityʼs thermal baths on Saturday, Hungarian news agency MTI reported today.

The project was covered by European Union grants amounting to 60% of total costs, Ministry of Agriculture Sándor Fazekas reportedly said.

The city applied for a ten-year loan for co-financing of the remainder, György Torkos, managing director of the bathʼs operator reportedly said. The renovation is expected to boost visitor numbers, and revenue, by 25%, the director noted.
