Zwack Unicum no longer Premium on BSE

Shares of Zwack Unicum, producers of that distinctly Hungarian tipple, will be sold under the “Standard” category of the Budapest Stock Exchange as of Monday, November 4; Zwack had been listed as a “Premium” brand prior to this but has now failed to meet premium-category requirement for two consecutive biannual reviews, according to news service MTI.

In the “Premium” category beginning in March will be ANY Biztonsági Nyomda, property holding company Appeninn, insurer CIG Pannonia, pharmaceutical companies Egis and Gedeon Richter, FHB and OTP banks, telcommunications firm Magyar Telekom, oil-and-gas company MOL, alternative energy company PannErgy and vehicle maker Raba.

For fiscal year 2012, Zwack Unicum reported after-tax profit had dropped 15% year-on-year to HUF 1.44 billion, while the Hungarian spirits market had contracted some 10%.

A note of sympathy for Zwack, then: You may not be “Premium,” but Hungarian guys still love ya

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.
Newspaper organizations across the globe have struggled to find a business model that allows them to continue to excel, without compromising their ability to perform. Most recently, some have experimented with the idea of involving their most important stakeholders, their readers.
We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
