PM calls police action lawful, justified and proportionate

Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány rejected recent political charges against police, saying that the authorities' actions on the national holiday of October 23 were "lawful, justified and proportionate".

Addressing Parliament in the absence of opposition MPs who walked out before the speech, sticking to an earlier pledge to walk out when the PM speaks, Gyurcsány said the government would set up an a team of experts to analyze what happened in Hungary over the past few weeks. Gyurcsány said the team would be composed to lawyers, sociologists, criminal psychologists, and experts in mass psychology.
The prime minister stressed the need to go beyond simple political wrangling and "dig deep" to explore the legal, psychological, social and other aspects of the events.
