The local council of Győr on Thursday approved changes to the local zoning plan allowing 180 hectares of farm land adjacent to the city's industrial park to be reclassified as industrial area.

The decision paves the way for future expansion of the 175-hectare park.

László Balogh, managing director of the company that operates the industrial park, declined to comment on the decision when asked by MTI, explaining that things were still in the preparatory phase.

The Győr Industrial Park opened in 1992 and has undergone six expansions, the last in 2009. Nearly a hundred companies from 14 countries operate in the park, data from the end of 2010 show.
