Aldi to enter Hungarian market

Retail

Although German food retail chain Aldi is to make an imminent debut on the Hungarian market, the company is highly secretive on the specific details of the launch.

The local staff is by now ready for the kick-off, however, Aldi will announce the time of their first shop openings only in the very last minute, the daily Népszabadság reported. Market specialists expect Aldi to open more, than a dozen stores in the beginning of April, mainly in larger towns of Hungary and around Budapest, the paper said. Aldi is likely to open 40-50 stores in its first year, specialists say. The chain is famous for keeping costs very low, by not spending much on advertising, but at the same time offering higher salaries to lure away its competitors’ best employees. (Gazdasági Rádió)
