Indian-owned SMR on Tuesday inaugurated a HUF 7 billion car mirror plant in Mosonmagyaróvár (NW Hungary).

The new plant will employ 250 people to make 7 million rear-view mirrors a year.

SMR was awarded a HUF 1.4 billion state subsidy for the plant.

The 15,000sqm plant will supply mirrors for Mercedes and BMW, among other partners, said SMR Magyarország factory director Pál Levente Tibori. Development engineers will also work at the plant, designing mirrors for different European carmakers, he added.

SMR has operated a mirror factory in nearby Mosonszolnok since 2009. From 2012, SMR's plants in Hungary will turn out more than 14m mirrors.
