Following the correction of a malfunction leading to a shutdown of Block 1 of Hungary’s sole nuclear power plant in Paks, the output of the block has been back to 100% since early Friday afternoon. Safety was reportedly not compromised.

A control system malfunction caused the block to automatically shut down on Thursday, the Hungarian news agency MTI reported. The safety of the unit was reportedly not compromised.

Antal Kovács, communications director at the Paks plant, told MTI the block was restarted Friday morning and reached its nominal 500 MW capacity at 2.20 pm. The cause of the malfunction will be reviewed, as required by law, Gyula Fichtinger, the head of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (OAH), told the news agency.
