GE Budapest R&D base produces environmentally-friendly, highly-efficient light source
Engineers at GE’s Global Lighting Technology Centre in Budapest have developed an energy-saving ceramic-metal halide light that has a minimal mercury content, global technology director GE Lighting Zoltan Vamos told MTI.
A compact and a straight tube version of the light was developed together with university research institutions over three years, Mr Vamos said. The programme received a HUF 292m grant from the Central Hungary Operative Programme, covering half of costs, he added.
The lights use 80% less electricity than conventional lights, he said. Efficiency of compact and high-pressure discharge lamps GE has developed are coming close to the highest values physically achievable, he added.
