Chinaʼs BBCA Group on Saturday signed a syndicated contract with its Hungarian partners for a HUF 62 bln citric acid plant it plans to build in Szolnok, central Hungary.

Construction of the plant will start next year, said BBCA Group chairman Li Rongjie. Output will start at an annual 60,000 tonnes, derived from 100,000 tonnes of corn, but BBCA would like to raise feedstock to 500,000 tonnes within a year, he added.

The plant will create 440 jobs, said mayor Ferenc Szalay.

Talks on the plant began in 2011 and the government declared it an investment of "elevated significance" – to accelerate the process of obtaining permits – in 2012. In 2013, the government approved the acquisition by the state of a stake in the plantʼs project company.
